EveryJan.5theChurchcelebratesthefeastofSt.JohnNeumann,Redemptoristmissionary,fourthbishopofthecityofPhiladelphia,andorganizerofthefirstCatholiceducationnetworkintheU.S. JohnNepomuceneNeumannwasborninBohemia,nowtheCzechRepublic,in1811.HeattendedschoolinBudweisandyearslater,in1831,enteredtheseminaryinthatsamecity. Uponcompletinghispreparationforthepriesthood,hepresentedhimselftohisdiocesebutsufferedanunexpectedsetback.Thelocalbishophadfallenillandpriestlyordinationsinhisdioceseweresuspendeduntilfurthernotice. Neumann,eagertoservetheLord,wroteletterstothebishopsoftheneighboringdioceses,butnoneofthemwantedtoaccepthim.Despitetheobstacles,thesaintwasnotdiscouraged. Toearnhisliving,hewenttoworkinafactorywherehemetafewAmericansfromwhomhelearnedsomeEnglish.Later,hecontactedsomebishopsintheUnitedStates.NeumannhadamissionarysoulandwasreadytomovetoAmeri
