TheattorneygeneralofOhioismovingtoshutdownaCatholic-runnursinghomeamidreportsthatthefacilityisplacingelderlyresidentsin“clearandpresentdanger.”
HouseofLoreto,anursingfacilityrunbythesistersoftheCongregationoftheDivineSpirit,hasallegedlycommitted“widespreadcarefailures,”AttorneyGeneralDaveYost’sofficesaidinaJan.13pressrelease.
Thesistershavebeeninvolvedwiththehomesince1957,whenthen-YoungstownBishopEmmetWalshaskedforthereligioustorunthefacility.Thecurrentfacilityopenedin1963.
TheYoungstownDiocesesaidinMarch2025thatthehomehadbeenacquiredbyHariGroupLLC,acompanybasedoutofOhio.InitspressreleaseannouncingthesalethediocesedidnotnoteanytroublesexperiencedbyHouseofLoretoatthetime.
InacourtorderrequestfiledonJan.12,Yost’sofficesaidthatstateinspectorshaveobserveda“rapiddeteriorationofcare”atthefacility,withthefilingclaimingthat“shockinglypoorcare”wasputtingresidentsin“realandpresentdanger.”
