AriseinexecutionsintheUnitedStatesin2025occurredalongside“shiftingpublicopinion”againstthedeathpenalty,offeringanti-death-penaltyadvocatesahopefulsigngoinginto2026evenamidhighlevelsofcapitalpunishment. TheDeathPenaltyInformationCenter,anonprofitgroupthattracksandcatalogsexecutionsintheUnitedStates,saidinitsyear-endreportthat48prisonerswereexecutedintheU.S.in2025,upfrom25theyearbefore. Thenear-100%increaseinexecutionswasdriveninlargepartbyFlorida,whichat19executionscountedforabout40%oftheyear’stotal,thegroupnoted.
