TheFederalBureauofInvestigation(FBI)specialagentwhooversawtheVirginiaofficeresponsibleforahighlycontroversialinvestigationintolocalCatholicswillleadthestate’ssafetyofficeunderitsnewDemocraticgovernor.
Gov.-electAbigailSpanbergernominatedStanleyMeadorasthenextVirginiasecretaryforpublicsafetyandhomelandsecurity,accordingtoaDecemberannouncement.
MeadorhasservedinseveralrolesintheFBI,includinginfieldofficesinSeattleandLasVegas,aswellasatthebureauheadquartersinWashington.
In2021hebecamespecialagentinchargeatthebureau’sRichmond,Virginiafieldoffice,whereheserveduntilJune2025.In2023thatofficeissuedamemotoagentslaunchinganinvestigationinto“radicaltraditionalist”Catholicsandtheirpossibletiesto“thefar-rightwhitenationalistmovement.”
