AlthoughhedidnotmentionspecificcountriesinhishomilyattheMasshecelebratedSunday,Sept.21,atSt.AgathaChurchinMiami,theprelatewasapparentlyreferringtothedictatorshipsofpresidentsDanielOrtegainNicaragua,MiguelDíaz-CanelinCuba,andNicolásMaduroinVenezuela,thelatteraccusedbytheU.S.governmentofleadingthedrug-traffickingCarteldelosSoles.
Báeznotedthatoneday,“allofus,withoutexception,willleavethisworld,andGodwillaskustoaccountforhowwehaveusedthewealth”andgiftshehasgivenus.Asanexampleofhowthesegiftsaremisused,theprelatepointedto“thedictatorshipsinsomeofourcountries,dictatorswhoactinthedarkandwithoutanymoralscruplestoenrichthemselvesatanycost.”
