Pope Leo approves new measures to include people with disabilities in Vatican workforce

PopeLeoXIVhasapprovednewmeasurestopromotethehiringofpeoplewithdisabilitiesintheVatican,sayingtheirconditiondoesnotpreventthemfromservinginChurchinstitutions. TheupdatedregulationsrequireVaticanofficestowelcomeandsupportemployeeswithdisabilities,includingbyprovidingaccommodationswhereneeded,“sincetheconditionofdisabilitydoesnotprecludesuitabilityforwork,”thenewprovisionstates. Healthrequirementsforjobcandidateshavealsobeenrevised.Insteadofdemandingperfecthealth,thefocuswillbeonwhetherapersonisfitforthespecificdutiesofthejob,withcertificationprovidedbyVaticanhealthservices. ThechangesapplybothtotheHolySeeandtoVaticanCityandtakeeffectimmediately.TheyfollowanotherpapaldecisioninAugustexpandingfamilybenefitsforemployees,includingpaternityleaveandextrasupportforparentscaringforchildrenwithdisabilities
