TheArchdioceseofSanAntonio,Texas,willholdacelebrationinSpanishandEnglishonSunday,July13,commemoratingthe137thanniversaryofthebirthofBlessedAnacletoGonzálezFlores,amartyrofthereligiouspersecutionMexicoexperiencedinthe1920sandpatronsaintoftheMexicanlaity. GonzálezwasborninTepatitlán,Jaliscostate,Mexico,onJuly13,1888.Hewasaprominentlayman,lawyer,andcatechist,recognizedforhisprofoundfaithandleadershipduringthereligiouspersecutioninMexicointhe1920s.HefoundedassociationsforChristianformationanddefendedtherightsoftheChurch,promotingpeacefulresistancetothegovernment’santi-clericallaws. Forhiscommitmenttofaithandjustice,hewasarrested,tortured,andultimatelyexecutedonApril1,1927.PopeBenedictXVIapprovedhisbeatificationonNov.15,2005.In2019,hewasnamedpatronsaintoftheMexicanlaity.
