Catholic Church strives to reduce violence in Mexico

AmidawaveofviolencethathasshakenMexico,includingthemurderthisweekoftwohigh-rankingofficialsinthecapital,theCatholicChurchisredoublingitseffortstorestorepeace. ThroughtheNationalDialogueforPeaceandmorethan300initiativesacrossthecountry,bishops,priests,andlaypeopleareworkingtotrainmediators,providementalhealthcare,andsupportvictims,takingrisksandembracinghope,eventhough,asChurchleadersthemselveswarn,“youcan’tdialoguewithorganizedcrime.” ThebishopsofMexico,alongwithvariousorganizations,launchedtheNationalPeaceDialogueinitiativefollowingthe2022murdersofJesuitpriestsJavierCamposandJoaquínMora.WhilevariousinitiativespromotedbytheCatholicChurchalreadyexistedinthecountry,thisproposalsoughttostrengthenallthoseefforts.
