Inthemidstofthepre-conclaveatmosphere,withaneyetowardtheelectionofthenewpope,theCatholicChurchexperiencedanothermomentofprofoundhopewiththeordinationof23newLegionariesofChristpriestsonMay3inSt.PaulOutsidetheWallsBasilica,oneofthefourgreatpapalbasilicasinRome.
Theceremony,whichwasinitiallytobeconductedbyCardinalKevinFarrell,camerlengooftheCatholicChurch,wasdelegatedtoBishopPedroPabloElizondoCárdenas,MexicanbishopoftheDioceseofCancún-Chetumal,duetoFarrellbeingengagedinhisofficialdutiesatthiscrucialtimefortheChurch.
AChurchinfullrenewalInhishomily,Cárdenasemphasizedtheurgentneedforpriests“whoknowhowtocomeoutofthemselves,outoftheircomfortzones.Itneedspriests,notmensettledintotheirsurroundingsandlivingincomfort.”
