InspiredbyanapostolicletterbyPopeJohnPaulII,whowantedtoensurethelegacyofthe“unknownsoldiersofGod’sgreatcause”wasnotlost,PopeFranciscreatedtheCommissionoftheNewMartyrs–WitnessesoftheFaithin2023.FrancissoughttoacknowledgeCatholicswhohavelosttheirliveswhileprofessingtheirfaithinthefirstquarterofthe21stcentury.CompiledbytheDicasteryfortheCausesofSaintsinpreparationforthe2025JubileeYear,thelistisanongoingcatalogueofChristianmartyrswho,theHolyFathersaid,“arewitnessesofthehopethatcomesfromfaithinChrist.”
