CardinalRobertMcElroy,thenewarchbishopofWashington,D.C.,sayshewishessuccessforPresident-electDonaldTrump’sincomingadministrationbutthathe’llbewatchingcloselytoseehowTrumpdealswithimmigrantswhoareinthecountrywithoutlegalstatus.
“TheCatholicChurchteachesthatacountryhastherighttocontrolitsborders.Andournation’sdesiretodothatisalegitimateeffort,”McElroysaidMonday,shortlyafterbeingintroducedasWashington’seightharchbishopduringanonlinepressconferenceattheCathedralofSt.MatthewtheApostleamidanunusuallyheavysnowstorminthenation’scapital.
